As we begin yet another New Year I'm thinking how fast life rushes by, often leaving me feeling that I just didn't have enough time to do and say all the things I wanted to.
The sudden and tragic death of the mother and daughter in Bali has really hit home for me - a frightening reminder of how short life can be and how quickly it can be lost.
I'm feeling sad that over Christmas I failed to make the effort to phone family overseas. It makes me realise that with so many families geographically apart it's all too easy to let relationships fade away. Even with all the technology at our fingertips, communication seems no better or even easier now than it did 30 years ago.
These are just some of the reasons why I'm so happy to be creating people's life stories - so that their lives will never be forgotten. Ensuring their stories live on forever is the only form of immortality that I know of.
For relatives far away and also for those yet to come, the story of their family member offers an important sense of belonging plus an understanding of the past and an intimate knowledge of where they came from. It is a chance for the person telling the story to pass on what they've learn in life - a real legacy of love - and this in turn gives their life more meaning.
